I want you to know
If anything should happen,
as sad as it might be,
my final wishes and hopes,
any relevant medical history.
‘Tis a hard talk to have
A harder task to see through
When wishes are not known.
Do not lose your cool.
Please don’t start to cry.
We are all just meat and bone.
The “what-ifs” of life
are hard to imagine.
Thoughts you can hardly bear.
But if they don’t know,
you must be my stand-in.
Please tell the doctors what, when, and where.
We discuss death over dinner
with paper and pen.
Prepare for when it arrives.
Tomorrow, we go on.
We hope nothing happens,
and continue with our lives.
